HYPNOTHERAPY FOR PERFORMANCE

Hypnotherapy for Muscians, Athletes and Performers

Hypnotherapy works well for musicians and other performers who are bothered by performance stress and anxiety.  Nerves affect the hands, breathing and thinking.  Hypnotherapy is able to reduce the stress response so that during those critical times your head is clear, the breathing is relaxed and the hands are steady.

In their book Performance Hypnosis, written by Glen D Wilson and David Roland, they state:

"Performance anxiety...afflicts individuals who are generally prone to anxiety, particularly in situations of high public exposure and competitive scrutiny.  Some degree of tension adds electricity to a perfomance but pessimistic self talk and feelings of panic can seriously affect it.  The most effective psychological treatments appear to be those that combine relaxation training with anxiety innoculation and coginitive restructuring (modifying thoughts that are self handicapping regardless of their origin).... If confident self talk is the key to relieving performance anxiety, then verbal suggestions delivered under hypnosis may be an effective treatment".

As a performer competing at Olympic level, I understand the stresses and the need for absolute focus to achieve those goals and stay on track.

Educational Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy and hypnosis may be beneficial in improving performance in both sporting and academic fields by encouraging focus, maintaining commitment and calming nerves and anxiety.

Study and exams can be stressful for a number of students.  Hypnotherapy is a blend of counselling and hypnosis designed to target the stress and anxiety around performance.   It supports  students to deal with these demands in a more relaxed and calm manner and to think clearly during intense study periods or during exams.

Too much stress in the body can lead to difficulties with concentration, shaking hands, increased heart rate or a general feeling of overwhelm.  By allowing the body to experience a state of deep relaxation the hypnotherapist is able to support the student to reduce these feelings of anxiety when it matters most, enabling them to perform to their potential.

Supporting students through their Year 11 and 12 can be a stressful time for parents.  We all want the best for our children and try to optimise their opportunities.  Hypnotherapy may help you to support your child better by enabling you to stay calm and relaxed through this stressful time.
